Updated November 2, 2026 · Planning notes
Begin with your interests and preferred pace. A classic first journey may connect Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai; travellers with more time can add Chengdu or Guilin. Entry requirements and transport rules change, so confirm current guidance with official sources before travel. The right itinerary leaves time between major sights for neighbourhood walks, shared meals and unexpected discoveries.
These notes provide general inspiration. Check current official requirements and your confirmed proposal before making travel arrangements.
